Description
🎭 Activity: Mini Role-Plays Using Phrasal Verbs (Teachy Games Special)
🧠 Focus:
Students practice using phrasal verbs related to memory (e.g., think back, forget about, come up with, look back on, bring back, remind someone of) in fun and creative situations — not necessarily related to memory.
🎯 Objectives:
-
Develop speaking fluency and confidence
-
Practice using target phrasal verbs in context
-
Encourage teamwork, creativity, and improvisation
🎲 Materials Needed:
-
A set of role-play cards (printable) with different scenarios
-
Optionally, Teachy Games Memory cards to review phrasal verbs before the activity
-
Space for small groups to act out their scenes
⏱️ Timing:
30–45 minutes
(can be adapted to 1 full session)
📝 Steps:
-
Warm-Up (Optional – 10 min):
Use the Teachy Games Memory game to review the meaning and usage of memory-related phrasal verbs. Students match verbs with definitions or example sentences. -
Distribute Role-Play Cards (5 min):
Divide the class into pairs or small groups (2–3 students). Give each group a different role-play card with a funny or imaginative situation. -
Prepare the Role-Play (10–15 min):
Each group reads their scenario and prepares a short dialogue. They must include at least one phrasal verb from the target list in their performance. -
Performance Time! (10–15 min):
Each group performs their scene in front of the class. Encourage creativity, accents, costumes, or props if available! -
Feedback and Reflection (5–10 min):
After each scene, ask the class:-
“Which phrasal verb did they use?”
-
“Was it used correctly?”
Optionally, vote for “Most Creative”, “Funniest”, “Best Use of a Phrasal Verb”, etc.
-
This activity works great as an end-of-term review, a fun speaking lesson, or a way to reinforce vocabulary through drama. You can adapt the difficulty by adjusting the vocabulary or providing sentence starters.
